During our adventures throughout Colorado, and while developing our artisan workforce at our factory in Montrose, we have learned a lot. Tourists, travelers, and locals visit us at the markets and are thrilled to see our U.S. made footwear; intrigued by the introduction of the unencumbered, close-to-the-earth comfort; they walk away with a newfound appreciation of their own feet. Nudists would agree, what could be more pleasurable than the natural state?
Dare To Go Bare?
SOM sneakers are pretty much one stylish step away from being completely barefoot, and we’re totally content with that. While the benefits and freedom of the barefoot society* stand their ground, we all have our own path to take, and SOM, well SOM, SOM took the other one.

Skin Off Our Back
Our sneakers now use animal hides for the toe-box, this is a change from our original design in which the shoe was considered vegan*. The nice rubbery material we had planned to use for the toe-box unfortunately does not jive with our toe laster machine. Our choice of material is limited due to the fact that we order in small quantities. We have to apologize to all our vegan fans. We’ll keep you informed about our progress in the low-impact, animal friendly vegan direction.

It’s not only footwear to us; it is a way to unite the power of the people. We have persevered in our dream of creating this versatile line of sneakers, now we want to inspire others to persevere in their chosen activities as well. One test-drive at a time we are sharing the vision of a sustainable community that believes in the preservation and respect of nature, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
What The Future Holds
The public is almost as excited as we are to open our retail location alongside our factory here in Montrose! Stay tuned for the exact date, as you will be invited to attend the opening. This is now a full running operation. Looking into the future, we are preparing to take the next step by extending our range of sneaker sizes, by doing this we can serve a greater audience with this awe-SOM American made footwear.
