A great brand is a story that keeps unfolding

SOM Footwear exemplifies this statement very well and we - each of you and the SOM Team - are the fortunate observers and actors in our unfolding story.  We know we have asked you for a lot of patience over the past months, and we can't say thank you enough for your loyalty.  We are not yet done with the changes needed in our manufacturing process, but things are moving in an exciting direction.

Passionately Yours

Many of our fans and followers thought we were stepping back in order to move the production to Asian countries.  Please note that such a move could have been done on day one of this project more than five years ago. The main reason we have a shoe factory in Colorado today is because we couldn't find a domestic shoe factory to manufacture our founder's idea.  Olie was driven by the idea of having the privilege to wear a shoe that would serve him well, and to support his country's economy.  The rest is SOM history, with thousands of customers driven by the same passion.  So, NO, we aren't moving our shoe production outside of the United States.

Production Update - What's Happening At SOM

For the moment we are producing small batches of SP-L3 black on black and answering our customer's special requests.

In the meantime, Olie is burning the candle at both ends to create a new model that will feature the same roomy toe box and great comfort you love. It's still too early to reveal anything about it because he likes to test the shoes over and over again to make sure they meet his high standards of quality.  Hopefully we'll have more info on that subject in November.  We hope that the new model will be ready for production very soon, and that we can resume full production before the end of the year.

As stated in our previous newsletter, we are in the process of getting new equipment in order to supply growing demand.  The past months have served us very well and we have identified what we need and, if all goes as anticipated, we should have all the new equipment up and running before the end of 2017.  Yes, it will take that long to get to the next level manufacturing our brand.

Shoe Sizes 13 To 16

Here's what we have to do: get the new cutting machine up and running; finalize the order with the last manufacturer (a last is a form that we use to shape our shoes on) and; grade the patterns.  We don't want to promise a date, but we have never been so close to our goal of serving more feet in a wider range of sizes.

There are people among you who have been patiently waiting for more than two years.  Please, keep that up, and we'll send you individual emails as soon as we are able to produce more sizes.

We appreciate more than anything else learning about your SOM adventures.  Thank you for taking the time to share them with us!

  • Hooray! You will stay! I am so pleased to hear it! I have two pairs of SOM. They are, without a doubt, the best shoes. I wear my SOM every day for work or play. These shoes are so great I would quit my day job and come work with you! Anyway, I am excited to see what Olie will come up with next!

  • Glad to read you are back to full functioning soon.
So, do I send a pair back for resoling in the box my new order came?

    Or, how is this done?

    Pls advise.

  • I’ve had my one pair for many months now and I wear them more than any other shoe. MADE IN AMERICA…EACH PASSING WEEK I AM BUYING MORE AND MORE MADE IN AMERICA PRODUCTS. IT IS TRUE…IN MANY CASES THOSE PRODUCTS DO COST MORE. SO…I MAKE THEM LAST LONGER, TAKE BETTER CARE OF THEM,IF I’M CONCERNED ABOUT EXPENSE. SOM SHOES ARE NOT THROW-AWAY-SHOES, NOT BOUGHT WITH THE EXPECTATION THAT, LIKE OTHER SHOES, THEY COME FROM VIETNAM AND ARE EASILY AND CHEAPLY REPLACEABLE. OR IN SOME CASES, VERY EXPENSIVE!

I can’t express how impressed I am with SOM. They just are like no other shoe I’ve ever worn. I will be buying more! I look forward to the new style but even if no new style were forthcoming, what SOM already produces is wonderful and would be enough for me. I’m happy to talk to people about the little American flag on them!

    Truly sincerely,

  • Hello SOM team,

I got nervous reading that last newsletter. I too love your shoes and don’t want to wear anything else and planned to buy another pair since I started to wear my current pair for work and play. I love that even after a year or so my shoes still don’t stink and I wear them daily. I also love that since I started wearing them for work I no longer feel any pains in my legs ever and my back seems to feel better as well. I am 31 and don’t have any medical issues but going up and down the 3 flights of stair numerous times a day at the apartment complex i manage and maintain in my hard toed work shoes I noticed my knees would hurt and at night my back was uncomfortable while I slept and now that’s not the case.
