SOM Adventure! Community Spotlight

Quality, barefoot-feel footwear handmade in Colorado would not exist without the support of our customers. Reviews, feedback, photos, and enthusiasm have helped SOM Footwear expand and strengthen across eight years of serving feet at home and abroad. We love hearing from our community, especially when they share the places, events, and experiences their SOMs have taken them. We spotlight three adventures from our community.

Racing to Panama

Sean G. of Hanover, Maryland

Sean had a big Spartan race coming up and wanted to get a pair of Nutrail Cross Sport before the deadline. The Cross Sport’s durable SuperFabric design with Soft Tongue lacing system, made them a perfect match for an outdoor event. We finished his pair and shipped them ahead of schedule to ensure they arrived on time. “I just wanted to thank the whole SOM team so much for the shoes and shipping them so quickly in time for my race! They’re my new favorite shoe and I love them!”

He also shared his adventure hiking in Panama in his Norwood Classic. “I took my casuals on a walk in Panama and they performed well, very well.” What other office shoe can trek a mountain in Panama?

Hiking around the world in comfortable shoes

Adventure doesn’t wait to change shoes. No more closets filled with footwear for this and a footwear for that. SOM’s versatility means, no matter the pair, you’re ready to jump into activity feet first.

Cinematographer in Peru

Kartik V.

Kartik is a professional cinematographer that takes him all around the world. He is on his feet for long stretches of time on all kinds of terrain, and his mid top SOM HiLites in Black provide him zero drop soles for standing upright, and wide toe-boxes for his toes to stretch and breathe while on them all day.“These shoes are perfect for me in every which way.”

Comfortable, barefoot-feel footwear

He recently returned from a three-week holiday in Peru and shared how well his mid tops performed while hiking the various elevations: from the Rainbow Mountains (15,532 ft), Machu Pichu (10,112 ft.), and Laguna 69 glacier lake (15,092 ft.) “I’ve been wearing them everywhere and cannot think of any other pair of shoes to wear now. Thanks guys for making such a wonderful and comfortable pair of shoes for me.”

Light as a Mountain Goat

Merren B. of Reston, Virginia

Merren spent twelve days in Glacier National Park and Waterton Lakes Parks hiking up and down rocky mountain trails, around lakes, along rivers, through meadows, and into town. “My feet stayed comfortable, dry and cool in my new SOMs, right out of the box.”

Lightweight Trailhead sneakers climb mountains and out perform heavy hiking boots.

He shared with us the above photo of his lightweight Trailheads surrounded by the thick, heavy boots that his companions wore. “I kept up with them and felt as light as a mountain goat—of which we saw plenty! Thank you to the folks who made my shoes and designed my shoes. I am happy to support your business.”

With flat, flexible shoes that bend how your foot naturally bends, SOMs strengthen your movements whether they take you down main street or up a mountain trail.
